We’re in Richmond. I guess we’ve been here close to a month now, actually. I’m getting used to having a Real Job again, we’re both trying to get used to living somewhere that’s not Cookeville.
The main benefit of living where we do (The Fan) is apparently the restaurants. There are some great places to eat around here, and we’ve just barely begun to scratch the surface.
The coffee shops, on the other hand, aren’t that great. There are two shops within a (very) short walk from our apartment, but neither of them hold a candle to the late Gridge’s or Fido. I’ve had some recommendations for roasters in town, but the one we’ve gone by had the roasted beans sitting out open in the air. Not a promising site.
I got my VA license today (w/motorcycle endorsement), and I’ll be getting new tags for my car sometime before the end of the month.
We went to Ikea this past weekend, and we hauled a desk and a big bookshelf on the roof of our tiny two-door Nissan. I can’t believe we managed to do that without incident. We also got a bunch of other junk that we didn’t have to strap to the roof. People who talk about Ikea being overwhelming aren’t kidding. We got there about 1:30 in the afternoon and left around 8:00!
So there’s some information, and now I’ve fulfilled my obligation (or the feeling anyway), and I can go back to writing about unimportant things again!

Wow…where did you put a desk and another shelf?? I can’t wait to see how much you’ve settled in. Good post, here, Trey. Would love to see you do it a little more often. But then, I guess I don’t have any room to talk, do I??
Yea Trey Yea Megan
So, a desk on the top of your car… Obviously you secured it properly. I say a person carrying and mattress on the top of a Monte Carlo one time. He was “securing” it on by holding it with his hand out of drivers window. The passenger was holding the other side with his hand out of the passenger window. It fell off about the middle of highway 111. Alot of swerving cars and 2 guys dodging minivans to get their mattress… (Hey Bubba, watch this…)
See you soon The Dad
Trey (and Megan): OMG-OMG-OMG-OMG-OMG!!!!
You have an IKEA!!! Hold on–I will be there in a second.
I mean, I wanted to visit you of course, anyway, but an iKEA?? If I can’t buy “American,” the next best thing is to buy mass-produced Swedish wares, right?! I think my favorite part of the store is the “model rooms.” They made me think of when Megan and I were little–we would have most definitely played house in those rooms while Mom or whomever shopped (“THIS is my bedroom and this is your living room and you come over to visit me…”)
I CAN’T WAIT to come and see YOU. Hopefully in March I will have abandoned my current work-every-weekend gig.
The Dad: Your Hwy 111 mattress story had me (and my husband, Scott) rolling. I can so see that happening, especially on that particular road.
“Like everyone else, I had become a slave to the IKEA nesting instinct.” -Fight Club
The Dad’s story and Rebecca’s reaction both had me laughing. Thank you.
Sorry–should have asked this rather than have an IKEA fit. But since it’s the internet I won’t ask…I’ll just say…that I hope you are liking your new job. We all know how helpful and important that is :)
It’s 12:45am EST. Which means it’s officially your birthday. Happy birthday!
Happy Birthday Trey!!
Happy Birthday, Trey! I’m trying to wait until I think you’re awake, but maybe not completely in a rush to get to work, to call and tell you that. If that doesn’t happen, know that we were thinking about you early this morning and wishing you a wonderful day!
I’m going to have to break down and visit an IKEA at some point. Glad you’re settling in and hope you had a good b-day Trey. Good luck with the coffee hunt.
Don’t you feel obligated to post again? Are you leaving the picture taking/posting and blog posting to Megan now? And have you seen my blog since yesterday? Check it out…
You could blog about the coffee shop you put on Flickr yesterday.
