Microformat for “Via” Links? Friday, March 2, 2007
As I was reading a post this morning and following via link after via link, I realized how cool it was to be able to see the path of the story as people wrote about it. I’ve often wished for an official way to put via links into my del.icio.us posts, because I like to be able to go back and follow that (usually) brief path myself (I can’t understand why most social bookmarking sites don’t offer this).
Would it be a good idea to take it one step further and have a microformat to markup via links so that we could automatically make those connections?

We’re in Richmond. I guess we’ve been here close to a month now, actually. I’m getting used to having a Real Job again, we’re both trying to get used to living somewhere that’s not Cookeville.
The main benefit of living where we do (The Fan) is apparently the restaurants. There are some great places to eat around here, and we’ve just barely begun to scratch the surface.
The coffee shops, on the other hand, aren’t that great. There are two shops within a (very) short walk from our apartment, but neither of them hold a candle to the late Gridge’s or Fido. I’ve had some recommendations for roasters in town, but the one we’ve gone by had the roasted beans sitting out open in the air. Not a promising site.
I got my VA license today (w/motorcycle endorsement), and I’ll be getting new tags for my car sometime before the end of the month.
We went to Ikea this past weekend, and we hauled a desk and a big bookshelf on the roof of our tiny two-door Nissan. I can’t believe we managed to do that without incident. We also got a bunch of other junk that we didn’t have to strap to the roof. People who talk about Ikea being overwhelming aren’t kidding. We got there about 1:30 in the afternoon and left around 8:00!
So there’s some information, and now I’ve fulfilled my obligation (or the feeling anyway), and I can go back to writing about unimportant things again!

We’re getting prepared for the move to Richmond, and it’s time to pair down the material possessions. Here are some things that I will be willing to sell if anyone thinks it’s worth money, and given away otherwise. I’ll keep this list updated as I find more things and as things go away:
- 22″ Flatscreen CRT monitor
- This thing is huge. We got Henry’s old LCD just to save space and not have to pack this one. Make me an offer.
- Loads of T-shirts. If you wear L or XL, come have your pick.
- I’m putting some on eBay, but if you see something you want (and it doesn’t have any bids on it), just let me know.
- PC TV Tuner card — WinFast TV 2000 XP Expert Edition (PCI interface)
- Includes remote control, lots of cables, drivers, and whatnot.
- It looks like this is going for about $40 on eBay. I’d be willing to sell it here for $30 obo.
- I got this mainly to record The Screen Savers, and shortly after I got it I stopped getting extended cable. Then that show went off the air anyway. And now I have a Mac.
- Lian Li PC-60 case (w/working computer inside). Coolest PC case ever. You’ll have to convince me to get rid of this, even though I need to.
- Compact Flash cards and reader
- 512MB, 128MB, 16MB
- PC Card (laptop) card reader
- Linksys 1-port 10/100 router
Wolverine and Spider-Man Pez dispensers- Books
- Quite a few. Ask if you’re interested.
- I’ve got a few listed on Amazon.
- USB webcam w/microphone
- If your computer has a microphone jack, this would be cool to have.
- Magazines
- Wired
- Macworld

Update: Wedding pictures are now online!
At the request of everyone, here’s what’s been going on with us lately.
The trip to Richmond went very well. They put us up in a fancy hotel, took us out to eat at a nice Tapas restaurant, gave me a tour of the company (and both of their buildings), took me out to lunch, and gave Megan a guided tour of Richmond. Of course, they also flew us there and back.
Megan helped me get through some crippling anxiety on the trip (not really panic attacks, but I’ve had kind of constant low-level anxiety for the past few weeks). We both felt good “vibes” from the people and from Richmond, so we’re acting on that–we’ve decided to move there. With some help from Jason and Angela, we’re going to do our best to find an apartment there next week. We’re aiming to be all moved and have me ready to get to work by the middle of January.
In the meantime, this Friday (15th of December, if you want to keep up) Megan and I got married. We had a very small ceremony at Burgess Falls. We had almost decided to just go to the county clerk and get everything taken care of there, but we went for something a little more meaningful (but almost as small).
So, in the popular tradition these days, we made a great friend of ours into a minster/officiant. Kevin did an excellent job, and we didn’t even ask to hear what he was going to say before he said it at the ceremony. The only other people present were Megan Edwards and both sets of parents (parents were kind of a last-minute addition–but it was a good decision and made it feel somewhat more official).
The weather was excellent, and the walk to the falls was thankfully uneventful. We scoped out the trails the day before, and realized that the steep/slippery path that we usually go would probably be too much for a gaggle of well-dressed parents.
The whole thing was basically that we invited a few people to our elopement. But don’t fret! We’re going to have a big party/wedding celebration in the spring. There will be official invitations sent, wedding cake to be eaten, and all that stuff.
More to come…
